This Is the No. 1 Campground in the U.S.—and It Has Glamping, Cabins, and RV Sites in a Dark-sky Community Tucked Between 2 National Forests

Tucked into the rolling hills of Camp Verde, Arizona, where the high desert meets the lush riparian banks of the Verde River, sprawls Verde Ranch RV Resort. The property was just named the No. 1 campground in the U.S. for the second year in a row by Campspot, a North American campground booking platform.

For the 2025 Campspot Awards, the company reviewed over 3 million data points, including guest ratings, reservation data, and park features. “The Campspot Awards aim to recognize those parks that are delivering outstanding guest experiences and embodying the spirit of modern camping,” Erin Stender, CMO of Campspot, said in a press release shared with Travel + Leisure.

Anyone who has stayed at Verde Ranch RV Resort won’t be surprised to learn of its ranking. It’s an RV campground, yes, but it isn’t your typical roadside stopover: the RV sites are supplemented by cabins and glamping, and the list of amenities is long. But arguably the most spectacular feature of the property is its surroundings, as Verde Ranch is located just south of the red-rock panoramas of Sedona and is tucked between two swaths of national forest.

Verde Ranch’s take on “unique experience” is a mix of unexpected on-property amenities and the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Camp Verde is internationally recognized for its dark, starry skies, so guests get one of the best views in the world from the property’s heated pool and hot tub. Verde Ranch welcomes lots of long-stay guests, so there’s plenty of community-minded activities to join, including a beautiful clubhouse, pickleball courts, fire pits, and a dog park.

Nearby, the Verde River flows, drawing kayakers and anglers.

Verde River is best known for its RV spots, which are spacious and can accommodate larger rigs. All 389 spots have full hook-ups and include comforts like WiFi and cable. Some sites have riverfront views and access. For those traveling without an RV, there are 16 fully furnished vacation cabins, which range from small studious to family-friendly two-bedroom homes. Those looking for the perfect mix of camping and luxury can book one of the property’s safari tents or a Conestoga wagon, which offers that Wild West feel.

The property’s new food service program, Farm 2 Fire, brings campers a selection of gourmet meal kits that can be made and enjoyed at leisure.

The list of best campgrounds in the U.S. also includes Sun Outdoors Pigeon Forge in Tennessee, The Beach Camping Area in New Hampshire, and Camp-Resort: Gardiner in Montana. For the full list, visit campspot.com.
