Spring has officially sprung, which means you’re likely looking for ways to spend more time outside. One great way to do so is by visiting a botanical garden. If you’re not sure which one to go to, we recommend checking out Longwood Gardens in Kennet Square, Pennsylvania—it was just named the No. 1 best botanical garden in the United States.
On March 19, USA Today released the results of its annual 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, announcing Longwood Gardens as its selection for the best botanical garden in the country. The gardens were nominated by an expert panel and voted for by readers.

Holden Barnes for Longwood Gardens
The property known today as Longwood Gardens was purchased in 1906 by industrialist Pierre S. du Pont, who wanted to save a collection of historic trees from being sold for lumber. Just one year later, he laid out his first garden—the 600-foot-long flower garden park, which remains one of Longwood’s most popular gardens. Today, Longwood welcomes 1.6 million guests annually and is beloved by the local community.
Don’t live close enough to make a trip to Longwood? There are plenty of other beautiful botanical gardens in the country to visit. Rounding out the top five best botanical gardens in the U.S. are the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden (Cincinnati, Ohio), Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden (Coral Gables, Florida), Tucson Botanical Gardens (Tucson, Arizona), and Lauritzen Gardens (Omaha, Nebraska).
