Yellowstone and Yosemite are two names that instantly evoke visions of some of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes. Yet, while Yellowstone National Park’s bubbling hydrothermal wonders and dynamic geology captivate the imagination, they are seldom linked to Yosemite National Park’s towering sequoias and sheer granite cliffs.
But that’s not the case on the Yellowstone to Yosemite by Rail train trip with Railbookers. It not only links the two national parks, but also includes a trip over the Continental Divide, stops in major cities, and plenty of Rocky Mountain views.
The 11-day journey begins with two nights in Chicago, where you can explore on your own or take advantage of the included two-day, hop-on, hop-off sightseeing tour. The following day, you’ll board Amtrak’s California Zephyr train en route to San Francisco. As the train winds its way out of the Midwest, it climbs through the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and Utah before stopping in Salt Lake City.
After a short day exploring Salt Lake City, you’ll board a shuttle headed for Yellowstone National Park. Then, you spend the night in West Yellowstone before having a full day to explore the world’s first national park, including sights like the Old Faithful geyser and Isa Lake, which straddles the Continental Divide.
Upon your return to Salt Lake City, you will re-board the Amtrak California Zephyr and continue west to California. The train journey ends near San Francisco, allowing you to explore the city, including its popular Fisherman’s Wharf neighborhood.
Following a day in San Francisco, you’ll board a shuttle to Yosemite National Park. On the journey, you’ll cross over the Bay Bridge at sunrise and spot the snow-capped Sierra Nevada Mountains. Upon arrival, you will have time to hike and shop in the national park before your return to San Francisco where the trip ends.
The 11-day, 10-night journey includes two nights aboard the train and eight nights in hotels in Chicago, Salt Lake City, and San Francisco. Lodging and round-trip shuttles are included in the Railbookers rate, which starts at $2,369 per person. The booking also includes two dinners.
As an added perk, when you book the journey with Railbookers, you can add nights to any destination and handpick your own hotels, activities, and restaurants at each stop.
