EXCLUSIVE: Rachel Morrison has come aboard to direct Love of Your Life for Amazon MGM Studios. Julia Cox wrote the script. Ryan Gosling and Jessie Henderson are producing.
Plot details are under wraps. Deadline was first to report the major script sale last fall after an intense bidding war. Numerous bids were proffered when CAA dropped the spec on the town, and one of the most intriguing bids came from Taylor Sheridan and Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, who were ready to pay $2 million together with a greenlight and a theatrical release, and a blind script deal. David Ellison’s Skydance got in the game with them, assuming the bid so they could keep their money in their pockets. That film would have gone through Paramount. No specifics yet on how Amazon MGM sees how Love of Your Life will be released, but we’ll update when we know.
The film reunites Morrison with Amazon MGM Studios as she most recently directed and executive produced The Fire Inside, which the studio released theatrically in December. The story of boxing phenom Claressa Shields and the American dream versus the American reality is Certified Fresh and Verified Hot on Rotten Tomatoes, with 93% and 94% Tomatometer and Popcornmeter scores, respectively.
Morrison is an award-winning director and cinematographer who has built an extensive body of work, channeling each story’s core narrative into arresting imagery and dynamic emotion. For her work on Mudbound, Morrison became the first woman ever to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography. She is also the first woman to lens a Marvel superhero movie, the box office smash Black Panther. Morrison has directed The Morning Show for Apple TV+, Impeachment: American Crime Story for FX and The Mandalorian for Disney+. She also helmed the pilot of the STARZ series Hightown. Morrison is represented by CAA, Range Media Partners, and Johnson Shapiro Slowett & Kole
