Joe Manganiello teases 'mind-blowing' “Deal or No Deal Island” finale (exclusive)

Each week, Deal or No Deal Island host, game master, and executive producer Joe Manganiello will weigh in with Entertainment Weekly regarding the latest events on the Banker’s Island. This week, he reacts to Parvati’s elimination, CK’s last stand, all the sabotage during the final excursion, and more.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Let’s start by paying our final respects to the dearly departed game of Parvati Shallow. I know you’re a big Survivor fan, so what was it like having her out there and watching her face off against the Banker?

JOE MANGANIELLO: Ah yes, a eulogy for a Black Widow…. She played a hell of a game. She was the biggest target from day one (not including Dr. Will’s reign of terror in the middle), but no one could get her out. The old school Survivor champions all have some sort of magical superpower. They’ve got what is widely referred to in the entertainment business as “it,” and Parvati definitely has it. As a fan of the genre of reality competition, I LOVE that DONDI has become a battleground for everyone’s favorite former winners. The stakes, the strategy, the money, the luck, make DONDI one of the best ever and I love that I get to run games for some of the greatest to ever play. Even though she didn’t win, this was a masterclass from Parvati, and I wish her luck in Australian Survivor.

Let’s get into the excursion. What was your take on Seychelle saying she was going to help CK but then essentially sabotaging her in her attempts to cross the bridge?

Seychelle could do no wrong this entire season in my opinion. She had my favorite submission reel during the casting round and she brought the fire every time she had the “mic.” Her final interaction with CK was the coup de grâce on an amazing first foray into reality competition. She found a way to get CK to get on her knees and kiss her feet. She could do whatever the hell she wanted after that.

Speaking more generally about CK, it seems her relationships in the game came back to bite her in that both Seychelle and Will slowed her down, causing her to return her cases in the slowest time and be immediately eliminated. Now that her ride is over, how would you asses her game?

First of all, let’s give her the credit she deserves for making it to the final three. I also want to remind everyone that she beat the Banker twice. But yeah, she cheated in front of 16 cameras and the entire cast and crew in an attempt to take Lete down with her. But that wasn’t what put the target on her back. It was when she tanked her entire team in order to save herself during the running challenge. Those guys on her team busted their asses and Dr. Will — who had entertained throwing the excursion for the other team — chose not to.

In that moment, she became a bigger villain than Will. She then blew up everyone’s plans at Temple in order to smoke screen the cheating scandal and in the middle of it all, went after Phillip, instigating the now-legendary “Harriet Tubman incident.” I wouldn’t have played it that way myself, but DAMN if it didn’t make for great f—ing television!

Dr. Will did help David cross that bridge, but then took the last plank and tossed it into the ocean while proclaiming the superiority of Big Brother over Australian Survivor. How on brand was that?

That was funny. I actually laughed at that. I laughed because there’s no way that anyone who has ever watched Australian Survivor would ever say that. I’ll break it down for you like this: David is what? 6-foot-2? 6-foot-3? And weighs, I’ll say, 230 pounds? Big dude, right? The fact is, he might not even rank in the top five biggest guys on the season of Australian Survivor: All Stars that he won. Aussie Survivor is Mad Max meets the UFC. Dr. Will is going to need to work on his deadlift and drink some protein shakes if he’s going to come at the Aussies like that.

Okay, just one episode left! What can you say about what’s to come next week in the DONDI season 2 finale?

Well, we’ve got the big season 2 Banker reveal, and uh, what else was I going to say… oh, right! The all-time television game show winnings record falls in what I can only say is maybe the most unbelievable thing I have ever witnessed. It’s mind-blowing, riveting TV and you are going to want to watch it in real time because people are going to be talking about it immediately after. It’s a cultural moment that is going to be everywhere. It’s so insane, you won’t believe your eyes…
