After a start in half-hour sitcoms such as Roseanne and Veronica’s Closer, Amy Sherman-Palladino switched to an hourlong format with the 2000 Gilmore Girls. She has not looked back, helping to revitalize the dramedy genre with Gilmore Girls, Bunheads and, most recently The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Like the Emmy-winning The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Sherman-Palladino’s followup series for Prime Video, Étoile, will be submitted in the comedy categories at the 2025 Emmy Awards. It has been referred to in coverage as dramedy or drama.
Leading the cast of Étoile is Luke Kirby who won a Guest Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy for his portrayal of Lenny Bruce on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
It was one of 22 Emmy wins for Mrs. Maisel which in 2018 became the first streaming series to take the Outstanding Comedy Series award.
Étoile premieres April 24, with all eight episodes released that day on Prime Video.
