Drew Barrymore thinks Robert De Niro’s dad is hot and she doesn’t care who knows it — even his own son.

The actress, 50, complimented her Everybody’s Fine costar, 81, on having one “very attractive” dad during Tuesday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.

“I didn’t know that your father was an artist — and a beautiful gentleman by the way, if I may say that. Look at him,” she said as the cameras cut to a black-and-white photograph of Robert De Niro Sr. “Now, I mean, I can see why you had so much swagger! Your dad’s… very attractive.”

De Niro kept a straight face throughout Barrymore’s confession. “I feel weird saying that to you, but he’s got charisma!” She confessed, fluffing her hair and trying to showcase his dad’s cool aura. “Or ‘rizz,’ as the kids say.”

The father of seven, whose children range in age from 53 to one years old, then revealed that one of his daughters recently tested his lingo by making him “read a whole list of expressions so she could show her friends and have fun laughing at me about it.” He confirmed that he did read the words for her, but not without an important caveat: “Just don’t send it around. Show it to them, but don’t send it everywhere.”

He still doesn’t really know what any of the words actually mean, though. “I didn’t want to,” he said, waving a hand in the air. “I said, ‘Okay, these are the words you guys say these days. Fine. Good.’” 

Barrymore admitted that she has a similar problem with keeping up with her own two daughters’ constantly-evolving slang. “I said ‘fire’ the other day and they were like, ‘That’s dead,’” she said as De Niro laughed. “And I was like, ‘on fleek?’ They were like, ‘Oh god.’” 

The host then pivoted back to De Niro’s father’s art. “May I show a piece of his work? Because I’m in love with it,” she said as the camera cut to a collection of portraits and still-lifes painted by his dad. “It’s beautiful.” He replied, “Thank you.”

A talented artist, De Niro Sr.’s work has been exhibited across the globe and is in the collections of multiple institutions including New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. De Niro has spoken about having a complicated relationship with his father, who came out as gay and separated from his wife, Virginia Admiral, shortly after the Alto Knights star’s birth. 

“What can I say, that we did certain things like talked about great poets? Well, sometimes, he would tell me stuff, or did certain things that you think we would do, but we didn’t,” he said during a 2022 interview at New York City’s 92nd Street Y. “We just had a pretty simple life.”
