The news extends Bowers & Wilkins’ relationship with the storied auto maker, which began in 2015, with the audio brand providing in-car audio systems for McLaren supercars. The extended partnership includes a pair of Px8 McLaren Edition headphones (in the racing team’s signature “papaya” colorway) that fans can buy online now. The team says Bowers & Wilkins will also be “playing a key role in their preparation and performance throughout the season,” with the brand’s products being used for the drivers’ “extensive travel, relaxation and pre-race preparation needs.”

Bowers & Wilkins Px8 McLaren Edition Over-Ear Wireless Headphones

First unveiled in January, the Px8 Wireless Headphones feature a redesigned acoustic system with an angled, ultra-high-resolution Carbon Cone drive unit for crisp, detailed sound. Advanced active noise cancellation technology lets you toggle between two modes, whether you want to completely seal out outside noise (say, if you’re sleeping on a plane) or you want to still be aware of your surroundings (say, if you’re going for a walk or working out). Battery life is solid, with up to 30 hours on a single charge. A quick 15-minute charge gets you a whopping seven hours of playtime.

The acoustic housing is surrounded by a lightweight aluminum shell with supple Nappa leather earcups. As mentioned above, the headphones are finished in a “Galvanic Grey” and “Papaya Orange” colorway inspired by Bruce McLaren’s Formula 1 race cars.

Bowers & Wilkins is celebrating its tenth anniversary as a McLaren partner. The British audio brand began working with McLaren in 2015 to outfits its supercars (like the McLaren GT and the recently announced McLaren W1) with a luxe speaker system inspired by the bold styling and high performance of the custom-built vehicles. The collaboration merges Bowers & Wilkins legendary audio prowess — which has seen the brand’s speakers used in places like Abbey Road Studios — with McLaren’s heritage of forward-thinking design.

The partnership was always seemingly meant to be: the Bowers & Wilkins research and development team is located in the English village of Southwater, only 30 miles away from the McLaren Technology Centre.

“We’re delighted to welcome Bowers & Wilkins to McLaren Racing, building on their partnership with McLaren Automotive,” adds Nick Martin, Co-Chief Commercial Officer, McLaren Racing. “Both brands share a commitment to innovation and technical excellence, and we look forward to creating exciting new products for our fans together.”
