Amber Portwood shut down claims she was fired from Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.
Portwood clarified that she was the one who “quit” production “three days ago” on a TikTok Live over the weekend, citing the need to focus on her mental health. “My mental health is more important to me right now,” Portwood said. “I started to see that all they were pushing, all this crazy stuff, that tore my heart out.”
“It’s not done through a contract yet because I just said it three days ago,” added Portwood, who made it clear that she was not a “puppet” for the show. “If I’m gone, who’s gonna be the villain for them? Who’s gonna play that role? Who are they gonna keep lying about and having their puppets making up stories like that?”

Reps for MTV didn’t immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly‘s request for comment.
Portwood appeared to be responding to reports from earlier this month that she was not invited to the latest reunion show and was “asking to be fired.”
An original franchise star, Portwood made her Teen Mom debut in the original series in 2009 and also appeared on 16 and Pregnant, Teen Mom 2, Teen Mom: Family Reunion, Teen Mom: Girls’ Night In, Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars, and the most recent Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, which follows the cast of Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2 as they navigate parenthood.
She shares daughter Leah with ex Gary Shirley and son James with another ex, Andrew Glennon. Her estrangement from her teenage daughter has been documented on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. “I was told to stay away,” Portwood said of the estrangement earlier this month on social media. “I would love to have my daughter with me. I would love to do mom-and-daughter things. It’s up to her. She doesn’t want to be around me at the moment while she’s in therapy. I understand.”
